LG G5 lands in Taiwan as G5 Speed

LG has launched its G5 flagship smartphone in Taiwan. Carrying a model number of LG-H858, the device costs TWD 23,900 in the country, which translates into around $740 at current exchange rates.

While it's essentially the same version that's available in most other regions around the world (except that it supports 3 carrier aggregation), the phone doesn't carry the standard 'G5' moniker in Taiwan - it has been launched as the 'G5 Speed' instead. The handset is currently exclusive to local carrier Chunghwa Telecom.

This comes just days after the phone landed in India, where it carries an official price tag of INR 52,990 (which is about $790).

Marshmallow starts hitting Galaxy S5 (Exynos variant) in India

Less than a couple of months after rolling it out to the Snapdragon variant in the country, Samsung has started pushing out the Marshmallow update to the Exynos variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900H) in India.

Bringing along Android 6.0.1, the update is rolling out over the air (OTA), as well as available through the South Korean company's Smart Switch software for PCs. You can also manually check for it by heading to the Settings menu on your device.

Moto Z backs to add X-like class with leather, wood and more

Lenovo is doing a major rebrand of Motorola - from dropping the "Motorola" name itself (in favor of "Lenovo Moto") to dropping the Moto X as a flagship. The new Moto Z will feature a modular design, which among other things will be used to easily customize the back.

Several backs were photographed - from "ballistic nylon" (like the Moto X Force) through leather and a couple of wood options.

Motorola's modular Project Ara stayed at Google when Lenovo bought the company, but it seems the new owner is not impartial to modular designs.

This one is distinct from both Ara's and LG's solution, the modules for the Moto Z cover the whole back and communicate over pogo pins (visible in this leak).

Some modules will just function like snap-on covers, others will add battery, speakers (by JBL) or camera (by Hasselblad). The Tech World conference starts in 3 days and we expect the Moto Z will make its first official appearance there.

Another batch of OnePlus 3 live images surfaces online

OnePlus is definitely no stranger to viral marketing and it is no wonder the upcoming OnePlus 3 has been stirring up so much excitement online. The Chinese manufacturer has steadily been feeding us one detail at a time, whether it is a press render, leaked specs and more recently, a short teaser video. But now that the unveiling is officially set for June 15 and the dreaded invite system allegedly ditched for good, fans really have a big event to look forward to and thus, understandably, are digging even deeper to get new info on the handset before launch.

The latest scoop comes in the form of a brand new set of live shots. These seem to show a grey variant of the OnePlus 3 and upon inspection, details do appear to match up with existing renders. This is actually the second time the OnePlus 3 is spotted in the wild. Back in may, ablack unit surfaced as well, but, currently, we can only speculate on the authenticity of both sets of pictures and we leave it up to you to decide for yourselves.

As for the OnePlus 3's specs, the ones we know of so far include: 5.5-inch AMOLED 1080p screen, return of NFC support, Snapdragon 820 CPU paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, a 3,000mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner. And for the most impatient among you, we also know that 1000 units will be up for grabs on June 6 at a price of RMB 2,999 each (around $455). However, interestingly, this is not the final price. The actual cost of the handset will be revealed on the announcement day, and if it turns out to be less, you'll be paid the difference.

Huawei is making another Nexus this year, exec says

Remember that odd Nexus 6P that got benchmarked in April with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset on board? Well, it doesn't look all that odd anymore.

Yesterday evening in South Africa Huawei launched its P9 series, and during an interview at the event Charlene Munilall, the Chinese company's general manager in the country made a very interesting statement.

Asked about the Nexus line and why it's not available in South Africa, at one point she bluntly stated the following: "We’re doing the Nexus again this year, by the way".

Now obviously there's still a small chance that this is a slip-up, given that it doesn't come from a person higher up in Huawei's food chain - like that report from earlier about a Daydream-enabled phone coming later this year, which is based on something Richard Yu said, and he's basically the guy in charge of Huawei's smartphone operations.

Then again, if this is real and Google has once again chosen Huawei as a partner for a Nexus device then that aforementioned benchmark suddenly makes sense. Perhaps we'll see a refresh of the Nexus 6P with better innards. This could even be the Daydream-capable handset Yu was talking about, come to think of it. Anyway, if this is true, expect to hear a lot more about the upcoming Huawei Nexus in the next few weeks and months.

ZUK Z2 scores more than 6 million registrations for its first sale

As you might already know, the ZUK Z2 - which was made official in China earlier this week - is set to go on sale on June 7. The device is currently up for registration, and the company has now revealed that the total number of registrations has already crossed the 6 million mark.

While that's certainly impressive, do keep in mind that the number only represents those who have registered for the sale (not actually pre-ordered the handset), and needless to say, registrations do not necessarily translate to sold units.

To refresh, some of the key specs of the device include SD820 SoC, 5-inch full HD display, 4GB RAM, 64GB memory, 13MP/8MP camera combo, and 3,500mAh battery. Price tag is around $275.
